Hailing from opposite ends of the world, Merz Trio met in the middle of a snowstorm in New York City, and now rehearse, travel, and argue together around the globe. One thing Australian violinist Brigid Coleridge, pianist Lee Dionne, and cellist Julia Yang agree on is their commitment to reshaping the narrative of classical music. Winners of the Naumburg, Concert Artists Guild, Fischoff, and Chesapeake Competitions, the Boston-based trio brings stunning virtuosity and fresh interpretations to classical standards, new music, and original arrangements, with a repertoire ranging from Ravel to Joséphine Baker to Irish folk melodies. The term “Merz” refers to connection and sharing, which is why this virtuosic trinity plays living rooms, concert halls, and everywhere in between. Merz Trio believe that art happens where people are – we hope you come along for the ride May 11 at The Monarch.
